Hyderabad: Barely a few days after the Telangana government's much-promoted helicopter 'joyrides' were grounded, the state's plan to restart the event at a different site is worrying civil aviation experts. Reason: Violation of aviation guidelines and lack of infrastructure.
Aviation experts red-flag helicopter joy rides in city
The Telangana tourism department is mulling setting up another helipad near Jalvihar after it stopped the service from the earlier site near PVNR Ghat. Affirming the government's resolve to change the location of the aerial tours, B Venkatesham, secretary, tourism department, said they are scouting for land to be used as a temporary helipad near Jalvihar.
However, experts claim these plans would fall flat once again — not just because the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has red-flagged it but also due to lack of proper safety mechanism at the landing pad.
"There are certain civil aviation rules that are meant to be followed for the (safety of) public and the pilots. These rules have been listed under section 4 of the DGCA guidelines," said Rohith Mittal, an air safety officer with DGCA.
