The newly constructed integrated terminal building of Chandigarh International Airport, Chandigarh has been conferred with the prestigious Vishwakarma Award for best construction project.
The award was received by D K Kamra, general manager (Project), Nand Kishore Deoli, Joint GM ( C) and H K Pandey, AGM (Engg) , on behalf of Airports Authority of India in the award ceremony held recently in New Delhi.
The award is conferred by the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), which is established by the Planning Commission and the Construction Industry.
The event was held at stein auditorium, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
The new Terminal has been awarded best project for well-developed landscapes and interior with arts, paintings and mural works.
The new terminal building, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11 last year, can handle 1600 passengers in peak hours, with annual capacity of 4.5 million. Fully Air-Conditioned equipped with modern facilities, the new building has the facility of three aerobridges, four baggage carrousels, 14 elevators, six escalators, 48 Check-in-counters. The parking area has the capacity for 500 cars and separate provision for VIP car park and bus parking. Aircraft parking main apron and cargo apron has a capacity of 10 C-Type aircrafts and 1 E-Type aircraft at a time.
Interior of Airport is decorated with art and mural works depicting heritage and culture of Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh.
