Crew members in a fight, AI flight delayed for 2 hrs

A fight between cabin crew members delayed the Air India Delhi-Kochi-Thiruvnanthapuram flight by about two hours on Thursday evening. The flight (AI 48), which was scheduled to depart at 6.15pm, had Lok Sabha MP from Kollam NK Premchandran, senior Left leader Prakash Karat and IAS officers on board.
"A flight purser came late and when the cabin crew in-charge (CIC) objected to it, he got the reply 'to kya hua'. The two then got into an argument in the galley of the aircraft. Irked by his unapologetic behaviour, the CIC complained to Captain Pawan Kumar, the commander," said a source.
The commander directed that the flight purser be taken off the flight. At first, he did not alight and later, when he did so, an airhostess also walked off the plane with him. Later, Air India arranged for crew and the plane took off after 8pm.
Airline sources said that when the flight purser was asked to get off by Captain Kumar, he reportedly called up a senior official of flight crew rostering who asked him to stay put. "The replacement crew called in his place also did not come quickly enough," the source said.
"We will have zero tolerance for any misbehaviour by staff. I have suspended the two cabin crew personnel who delayed this flight. An inquiry is on and we will ensure such a thing is never repeated. We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers," AI chairman Ashwani Lohani said.
