Hyderabad: “Every Airbus is partly made in India!” said Dwarkanath Srinivasan, president, Airbus Division, India. Airbus considers India to be a strategic market for the aviation and aerospace industry and it has started sourcing different components from 45 suppliers across the country.
He was addressing the media at the Fifth India Aviation 2016 here on Thursday where Airbus executives explained why they see India to be the fastest growing aviation market in the world. “We are already doing business worth $500 million and expect to even cross the two billion mark by 2020,” he said.
The firm employs 400 engineers and supports around 6,000 jobs nationwide across all Airbus programmes. The partnerships range from IT services, avionics, customer support, training, parts, sub-assemblies such as doors and wing components for the A320 and A330 family of aircraft.
Apart from Airbus Engineering at Bangalore, it has two dedicated design centres, pilot training at Delhi and was also exploring potential partners for establishing an MRO facility.
The rising Indian middle class expected to grow from the current 400 million to 600 million in the coming years is expected to propel the economic growth and thereby passenger traffic growth by 8.4 per cent for the next two decades – well above the 4.6 per cent worldwide, observed Airbus vice president, marketing, South Asia and North America Joost Van Der Heijden.
