Faulty scanning machine at airport has fliers worried

Surat: Passengers travelling to Mumbai and Delhi were concerned over security breaches at the airport here on Friday morning as the X-ray baggage scanning machine was not functioning.
When security at airports has become main concern following serial bomb blasts at Brussels airport in Belgium, Surti fliers boarding Mumbai and Delhi flights on Friday morning were worried.
Also, passengers were literally suffocated at the airport passenger lounge as the air-conditioning system had developed a technical snag. With increase in the humidity level, it was difficult for passengers to sit in the lounge.
"The X-ray baggage scanning machine is an integral part of security system at the airport. The malfunctioning of such a devise is dangerous for passengers onboard the flight. We were asked to open up our bags and the officers were doing manual screening, which was totally unsafe," said a passenger.
He added, "The airport staff was non-cooperative when the air-conditioning system failed due to some technical snag in the morning. Despite repeated attempts, the airport staff and the technical team were unable to attend to the complaint."
