It has been twelve days since an immigration official allegedly hit a passenger at Mumbai airport. But, there has been no development in the case. The local police, who lodged an FIR against the passenger, ended up filing only a NC against the officer. Moreover, the local police have not even managed to get the CCTV footage of the episode.
The passenger, Kishore Shimpy, arrived on March 1 from a flight from Paris (Jet Airways flight 9W 123), at around 8.15 am. He rushed towards the immigrations section to finish the formalities and leave the airport. But, in his distracted state of mind, Shimpi did not notice that the official had wrongly stamped his passport with February 28 as the date of entry. He was then stopped by another immigration officer and was asked to go back to the same counter, where the constable on duty was Deepak Chavan.
DCP Virendra Mishra said, “The CCTV footage is in their (immigration department) possession and we will have to wait till the department hands over the footage to us. We drafted a written letter to the department immediately, the next day. I will ask the senior officials to tell the immigration department to hurry up and submit the footage to us.”
