Panaji: North Goa district collector office said attachment of Vijay Mallya's Goa Kingfisher Villa by lenders is taking time since United Spirits, which claims to be a tenant, is also being heard in keeping with a Supreme Court decision. Nila Mohanan, the district collector, said that a three-month deadline was earlier extended by another three months and since December 2015 she has been on maternity leave.
Her comments follow statement by SBI chairman that the bank's attempt to attach Kingfisher Villa in Goa was stymied by the collector, who held eight hearings and went on leave without taking possession of the property even after a high court order to dispose of the matter in three months.
SBICAP Trustee Company Limited, on behalf of consortium of banks, had approached the district magistrate to attach the villa on December 2, 2014. Kingfisher Villa owned by UB Holdings was mortgaged with lenders against their loans to Kingfisher Airlines. But before SBICAP Trustee Company Limited could approach the district magistrate to attach the property, United Spirits Limited filed a caveat before the collector to hear them before passing any order in the matter. The collector had allowed the application, but rejected another filed by Kingfisher Airlines and UBHL to make them party in the case.
