Hubballi: About 40 personnel attached to the Karnataka Industrial Security Force (KISF) took control of security at the Hubballi airport on Thursday.
Security has been beefed up in civil airports across the country after the terror attack on the Air Force base in Pathankot (Punjab). The strengthened security in Hubballi assumes significance as it is being developed into an international standard. Following demands for full-fledged security arrangement, authorities at the airport had conducted a survey in 2013. The authorities recommended that KISF be deployed at Hubballi airport.
Earlier, only the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionerate was in charge of security at the airport. Most of the policemen were not trained properly to deal with any eventualities.
Speaking to TOI, Pandurang H Rane, police commissioner, Hubballi-Dharwad, said that the commissionerate will monitor and supervise security at the airport. "The police staff, who were earlier involved in airport security, will be utilized for other works like checking and frisking," he said.
