Ranchi airport's AAI staff threaten to join national strike from April 4

Employees of Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Ranchi airport have threatened to join the nationwide strike from April 4 if their bonuses are not paid to them.
The Ranchi airport has more than 100 AAI employees and despite assurances of a peaceful strike, operations are set to take a hit if matters escalate.
"As per the decision of the central committee of Airport Authority Employees Union (AAEU), the AAI staff at Birsa Munda International Airport will hold a demonstration during lunch break starting April 4. If the management fails to heed our demands, we will be going on hunger strike from April 12," said Abdul Sayeed, Ranchi (non-metro) branch president of AAEU.
AAEU leaders have been pressing for bonus profit-sharing with the employees, thoroughly defined superannuation pension benefits, employment assistance to the kin of the deceased personnel and release of an increment to the employees who completed 15 years of service on revision of new pay scales.
The letter sent to AAI by AAEU on Thursday threatened an agitation if the demands were not met. "With constraint, it is to bring to your kind notice that AAEU has been working with a constructive approach to promote the overall growth of AAI. Now, the Union is forced to start an agitation against the careless attitude of the management of the authority towards the long important issues from April 4 with a lunch hour demonstration and 72-hour hunger strike from April 11 followed by April 19." the letter reads.
