Shipping Ministry to seek DGCA's permission to ply sea planes

New Delhi: The shipping ministry will soon seek Directorate General of Civil Aviation's (DGCA) permission to ply 25 sea planes on select rivers and beaches for tourism purpose.

These planes would be Russian manufactured and a private firm would be given license to run service. The cost of a 10 seater sea plane is said to be around Rs 10 crore.

"We'll be writing to DGCA to prepare rule and guidelines for such planes. We have already received a proposal from an international firm who's interested in operating such services in India," a senior government official said.
The private party will also construct floating jetties for take-off and landing of such planes.
