Bareilly: A Samajwadi Party MLC candidate after being found guilty of misusing official machinery had to pay Rs 2.21 lakh as charges to the state civil aviation department for using the state helicopter to ferry his election symbol and authorization letter from Lucknow to Bareilly. The move say officials has come on the directions of Election Commission of India.
Accepting that the state government chopper was used to carry election symbol and authorization letter for him, SP MLC candidate from Bareilly Rampur seat, Ghanshyam Lodhi, told TOI, "I have already deposited Rs 2.21 lakh as charges of the chopper to the state civil aviation department on the directions of the election commission. My party had arranged the chopper to ferry the above items for me to Bareilly and they have paid the above amount on my behalf."
He added, "I have not committed any wrong because it was not possible to send the letter and election symbol at such short notice to Bareilly from Lucknow on the closing day. The issue has unnecessarily been blown up."
