Visakhapatnam airport passenger footfall to cross 15 lakh

Visakhapatnam: Passenger footfalls at Visakhapatnam airport are set to cross the 15-lakh mark by the end of the current fiscal. The port city airport has already handled 14.6 lakh passengers from April to January 2015-16 as against 9.04 lakh from April to January 2014-15 period, registering a growth of 61.5 per cent in the 10 months.
Meanwhile, for the first time, the airport has registered over one lakh passenger footfalls every month comprising both international and domestic passengers during the last 10 months. The highest passenger footfalls was noticed in January 2016 when around 1.75 lakh passengers utilised the airport as against 97,557 passenger in January 2015.
In terms of international traffic, the airport has handled around 1.04 lakh passengers in the 10 months of 2015-16 fiscal as against only 46,213 during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. Nearly 13.56 lakh domestic passengers travelled via Visakhapatnam airport from April to January 2015-16 as against 8.58 lakh in the corresponding period of 2014-15.
Meanwhile, the aircraft landing and taking off from the airport has also witnessed an increase of 48.4% with 13,727 aircraft visiting Visakhapatnam airport during the April to January 2015-16 as against 9,247 aircraft in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
