Vistara ups capacity to meet strong domestic demand

Vistara, India's third full-service airline after state-owned Air India and privately held Jet Airways, plans to add four aircraft to its fleet of nine Airbus 320s this year as it increases destinations and frequencies on existing routes.

The airline, a joint venture between Tata Sons (51%) and Singapore Airlines, began domestic operations in January last year and flies to 12 cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. Next month, it will add Srinagar and Jammu in the north and Kochi in the south.

In its summer schedule from Mar. 27, Vistara will increase weekly flights to 400 from 317 and is targeting 580 by October, an 80% increase overall. In its first year, Vistara carried over one million customers.

"With growing market presence and phenomenal customer uptake, we plan to double our domestic capacity this year by offering more flights, destinations and increased frequencies," said Phee Teik Yeoh, Vistara's chief executive.
