Air India passengers told no pilot for trip, tag PM on Twitter

Passengers of an Air India flight, who were delayed by three hours due to the unavailability of a pilot, sought the intervention of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), sending airline officials scurrying to find a replacement.

In what the Air Passengers Association of India (APAI) is saying is a classic case of social networking coming to the rescue of stranded travellers, several passengers took to the internet to protest, narrating their ordeal on Facebook and tagging the Twitter handle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The ordeal began at 8:15 pm, after some passengers had already boarded the Bangalore-bound flight. The crew then announced that the pilot for the flight was unavailable as he had already flown the maximum permissible hours for that day, as per the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Passengers claimed there were absolutely no signs of the airline trying to get a replacement pilot as the hours passed, even after they began to object. That forced the passengers to take their protest online, writing of their ordeal on Facebook and Twitter, and even tagging the Twitter handle of the prime minister.
