Ahmedabad: In what the Air Passengers Association of India (APAI) is saying a classic case of social networking coming to the rescue of stranded travellers, several passengers took to the internet to protest, narrating the ordeal on Facebook and tagging of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter. The ordeal began at 8:15 pm, when on Bangalorebound flight it was announced that the pilot for the flight was unavailable as he had already flown the maximum permissible hours for that day, as per the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Passengers claimed there were absolutely no signs of the airline trying to get a replacement pilot. That forced the passengers to take their protest online, writing of their ordeal on Facebook and Twitter, and even tagging the Twitter handle of the prime minister. The Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahesh Sharma responded to the tweet of passenger Narayana Chiploonkar, who made sure Sharma was given all the details and kept abreast of the situation.
Upon verifying the authenticity of the complaint, instructions were passed onto the airline through Air India Chairman Ashwini Lohani and a spare pilot was quickly arranged.
