AAI cracks whip on white, yellow cabs

Kolkata: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has asked the police to check the antecedents of yellow and white cabbies operating at the airport.
"The taxis use airport facilities but are unregulated. We aren't aware how many cabs operate, who are the owners and what are the drivers' credentials. We have asked the Bidhannagar commissionerate to ensure the drivers' antecedents arer checked," said airport director Atul Dixit at the airport advisory committee meeting on Tuesday. The airport claimed to have received several complaints of rude yellow taxi drivers and non-metered white cabs fleecing newcomers to the city. Though a big chunk of flyers has now moved to app-based cabs and radio taxis, the airport authorities want to ensure that others, too, fall in line. But both white and yellow taxis resisted change till now.
Another major bone of contention is that AAI has failed charge these taxis for using airport premises for business, unlike app-based and radio cabs.
