Airport staff caught stealing antibiotics chemical worth Rs 23L

Mumbai: The Sahar police recently arrested eight aiport ground handling agents—drivers and loaders—for stealing 18 bags of a chemical, worth Rs 23 lakh and weighing a total of 450kg.
The chemical is used in the manufacture of cefadroxil and cefaclor antibiotics. It was stolen from the cargo section of the international airport between January and May.
The police also nabbed the buyer, Prabhu Dodia (48), on May 3 and are searching for the main accused, who they suspect is some "businessman" or "someone with medicine background". The gang had been selling the chemical for Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 per kg. The act has been captured on the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
A case was registered on May 15 when MIAL officials approached the police after four pharma companies complained about their consignments been tampered with before reaching their clienteles in South Korea, Britain and other locations.
