Chennai: Getting in and out of Chennai airport that is not exactly famous for its infrastructure and planning is another challenge for passengers.
Apart from the glass-breaking incidents that happen at regular intervals, another problem is the traffic route to and at the airport. One can be awarded a prize if s/he makes it to the airport and gets out without any guidance in the very first attempt.
Despite all the previous measures taken up by the Airports Authority of India, the way to Chennai airport still looks tough for passengers as they have to depend on someone to even get out of the airport to the main road.
Arshad Khan was one of the stranded passengers who did not know how to get out of the airport after arriving from Delhi.
"I am completely lost and do not know how to reach the nearest bus stop or the Railway terminal," he said. It was not any easier either to explain to him the route out from the airport.
It is all the more difficult to explain to people who come out of the international terminal as the route is even more circuitous. If passengers face this problem, it is worse with vehicles that have to go in a loop to enter and exit the airport especially during peak flying hours.
Since a single exit-entry point is used, this leads to confusion and congestion. "Why can’t they simply make the entry side the exit and the exit, the entry. This will solve almost all the confusion that happens inside the airport. People who come from the south side can get on the current exit ramp and exit at the current entry ramp to continue on the GST Road instead of going around in circles as of now," a long-suffering taxi driver said.
