Civil aviation policy to be cleared this month: Sharma

The National Civil Aviation Policy is ready and will be taken up by the Cabinet for approval after the Prime Minister’s return from his five-nation foreign tour.

Through the past week, and after seven months of consultations, the Civil Aviation Ministry had been giving its final touches to the policy, which seeks to boost regional connectivity and ease norms for new airlines to fly on international routes. However, since the policy wasn’t in final shape it couldn’t be taken up for consideration at the Cabinet meeting this week.

“It is true that the policy has faced several delays. However, we expect the policy to be taken up whenever the next Union Cabinet meeting takes place. There is no rush,” Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said in a telephone interview.
