DGCA blames Jet Airways’ bus driver in Air India mishap

New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation ( DGCA ) has blamed the bus driver's fatigue as the reason for ramming a Jet Airways' bus into Air India ATR-42 aircraft at Kolkata airport in December last year.
"While he was driving close to bay no. 32 (where the AI aircraft was parked) during negotiating a turn, he dozed off, lost control of the wheel and deviated from vehicular lane. Before he could realise, he had impacted the aircraft parked in bay 32," reads a DGCA report uploaded on the regulator's website.
The report has also advised that airlines should ensure that equipment operators and drivers are properly rested to avoid any such occurrence in the future.
"Airlines may review their policy on rostering equipment operators/drivers for performing duties on consecutive nights," the report said.
