DGCA suspends flights from Sahastradhara helipad and two aviation companies for Kedarnath

Dehradun: Directorate General of Civil Aviation has suspended all the flights from the Sahastradhara helipad from Tuesday onwards. Owing to this, all the charter flights have been diverted to Jolly Grant Airport. Besides, two aviation companies have also been suspended for not following the mandatory norms with regard to fitness of pilots, safety of passengers and information about their staff. The companies which were flying for Kedarnath from Phata, helipad near Kedar valley, have responded to the DGCA notice and are awaiting revocation of suspension orders.
Civil aviation secretary Amit Negi told TOI, "The joint director general, Civil Aviation, on their inspection at Sahastradhara helipad saw a company staff rolling the oil barrel instead of bringing it on a carrying machine in order to refuel their aircraft. Finding the wrong practice being followed, they suspended all the flights from Sahastradhara helipad onwards. When we pointed out that it should be the company, at the error to be punished instead, DGCA accepted our version. However, till the time we get any correspondence from them in this regard, all the charters would fly form Jolly Grant."
