Kozhikode: Customs officials at the Karipur airport arrested a passenger for trying to smuggle 938 grams of gold, valued at Rs 27 lakh, in the form of foil strips concealed in his baggage on Friday.
Acting on a tip off, officials of the customs preventive wing intercepted Abdul Rauf, 54, hailing from Kasaragod, who had arrived in Air India Express flight (IX-344) from Dubai.
The customs officials who examined his baggage found thin gold foils concealed inside cartons of toys.
On interrogation the accused named Raheem and others behind the smuggling racket.
Customs arrested a person named Khalid who was waiting outside at the airport to collect the gold.
