Wednesday witnessed two major income tax raids on a big corporate and a lobbyist. Income tax officials conducted a massive raid on the offices of Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DIAL) in New Delhi and NCR. DIAL is a joint venture consortium of GMR Group, Airports Authority of India and transport company Fraport.
In another raid, more than a hundred tax officials stormed dozen premises of corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar and his firms in Dariyaganj, Greater Kailash as well as in Faridabad and Gurgaon. Talwar is known for brokering telecom and aviation deals.
The two major operations were conducted under the leadership of Directorate of Income Tax Investigation unit one, New Delhi.
A source said during the investigation at DIAL, the tax department is said to have found crucial papers, which provide various leads to trace unaccounted money. The raids were continuing at the time of going to the press.
A DIAL spokesperson said: "As a routine survey of DIAL joint ventures, income tax officials visited our office and we extended full cooperation to them. DIAL follows the highest level of ethical and legal standards in its businesses. As a leading airport in the world, we put in place robust institutional measures to monitor as well as implement corporate governance of the highest order."
