New Delhi: The government-owned oil companies on Wednesday increased the price of aviation turbine fuel or jet fuel price by a steep 9.2 per cent, and that of non-subsidised cooking gas by Rs 21 per cylinder.
This was the fourth monthly increase in ATF prices, in line with global trends. ATF in Delhi will now cost Rs 46,729.48 per kiloliter, an increase of Rs 3,945.47 or 9.2 per cent.
Prices vary from state to state depending on the sales tax.
The oil companies began increasing prices in March this year, after three cuts starting in December. On March 1, the ATF price was marked up by 12 per cent. This was followed by an 8.7 per cent increase in April and a minor mark-up of 1.5 per cent on May 1.
Jet fuel accounts for over 40 per cent of an airline's operating cost and the latest price increase will add to the financial burden of cash-strapped carriers.
