Mini airport hope takes wing with min's scheduled visit

Berhampur: The scheduled visit of Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju to the town on Tuesday has rekindled hopes for development of the airstrip at Rangeilunda near Gopalpur.
Raju along with Union minister of state for chemicals and fertilizers Hansraj Gangaram and BJP national secretary Siddarth Nath Singh will be in the town to attend the Vikash Utsav organized by the saffron party to celebrate the two years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.
"People of the town have long been demanding for upgrading the airstrip. Three years ago, a team from Airport Authority of India conducted a feasibility study to explore possibilities for developing it into a mini airport. Things fell silent thereafter," said Sudhir Rout of Ganjam Forum, an organization working for development of the district.
Since the Centre in its 2016-17 Budget had proposed revival of 160 airports and airstrips across the country, people are hopeful of an announcement with regard to Rangeilunda airstrip from the civil aviation minister.
