Naval air enclave at CIAL to be ready this year

Kochi: The Navy’s air enclave at the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) will be ready for commissioning this year, said a top official of the Southern Naval Command.

The enclave, planned by the Navy to cater to its future air operation requirements in the region and in the backdrop of the force-level augmentation that is under way, will be come up over an area of 11 acres alongside the airport’s cargo complex.

The enclave was originally slated for completion by end-2011.

The Navy intends to operate its maritime recce aircraft, including the latest Boeing P8-I on a need basis, from the facility which has maintenance hangars capable of providing back-end support to the operation of a squadron from the enclave.

As already reported by The Hindu , the enclave will be able to back up full-load operation of the long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft, Boeing P8-I, if required.
