One umbrella cargo terminal for Raipur airport

Raipur: Aviation sector in Raipur got a major boost with the inauguration of common user domestic cargo terminal (CUDCT) at old terminal building, Swami Vivekananda airport on Thursday evening.
According to Sanjay Jain, regional executive director (Eastern Region), Airports Authority of India has taken an initiative to bring all airlines under a common user terminal at various airports in view of enhanced efficiency of cargo handling and better security compliance. As a part of this programme, CUDCT at airports such as Visakhapatanam, Mangalore, Madurai, Indore, Ahmedabad and Port Blair and Bagdogra have started their operations. CUDCTs are also planned at Bhubaneswar & Ranchi.
Raipur is the first airport in the eastern region to be maintained and run by GSEC Limited.
"Space for common user terminal for domestic cargo has been given by AAI and the operator, M/s GSEC Limited was awarded after open competitive bidding" Santosh Dhoke, Airport Director said on the occasion. Trials for domestic cargo have begun and two airlines- Indigo and Jet airways have began using common terminal during the trial runs and Air India is likely to join soon.
