PM may fly in to lay foundation stone for Mopa airport

Panaji:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to lay the foundation stone for the proposed greenfield international airport at Mopa and electronic system and design manufacturing (ESDM) hub at Tuem in August. Both are flagship projects of the state government.
Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar told TOI on Thursday that it had been decided to lay a foundation stone for Mopa airport and ESDM at Tuem. "We will now invite the PM for the function," he added.
Earlier, Parsekar laid the foundation stone for a 10m wide approach road from national highway 17 to the Mopa airport being constructed at an estimated cost of 23 crore. Those whose land will be acquired for the construction of the approach road will be given appropriate compensation, Parsekar said. Those whose land was acquired by the government for the airport will be compensated with 300 per square metre in addition to the 100 per square metre already paid to them. Those compensated with 1,000 per square metre will get an additional 3,000 per square metre and those who have not been compensated will be provided with 400 per square metre.
