Runway recarpeting to be completed after monsoon

Thiruvananthapuram: The second phase of recarpeting of runway at Trivandrum International Airport before the onset of monsoon will be completed only after the monsoon. The delay in completion of the first phase of the recarpeting work has resulted in the postponement of the next phase to October. The partial flight restriction has also been extended till June 30 due to the delay.
Airport officials had earlier scheduled to complete the recarpeting work (first and second phase) by May 22. The recarpeting work of the 3,373-meter-long runway, conducted once in a decade, was started in March.
The work worth Rs 56 crore was planned to be completed in three phases, 680 meter of the runway along All Saints' side in the first phase, 860 meter along Vallakkadavu side in the second phase and 1,833 meter in the middle area of the runway in the third phase.
