Chennai: Reacting to media reports that the security at the Bengaluru airport allegedly “mistreated” him, music director Ilaiyaraaja on Tuesday said the guards were only doing their duty and urged the media to not blow the issue up.
Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Ilaiyaraaja said the incident in Bangalore was a routine procedure and the security guards were, as expected of them, treating him as any other ordinary citizen. “I am an ordinary citizen too. If the security wants to check my bag, I have to comply. I don’t need any special respect from them,” he said.
Explaining the sequence of events that transpired on Monday, the music director said he was carrying ‘prasadam’ from a temple. “Security people in Mangaluru allowed me to take it on the flight. Every year it has happened. Yesterday, he [guard] wanted to check the bag and did so. That is all,” he added.
