Mumbai: The Director of an aviation academy in Andheri has been booked after students complained that she had “cheated” them after promising jobs at the end of the course.
The Amboli police station registered an FIR against the director of Fly High Aviation Academy Catherine Joseph and centre head Sonam on Tuesday under sections 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
About 40 students of the institute alleged that the director had lured them into joining the institute by promising 100 per cent placement.
“The academy promised the students that it would place them in companies but did not do so. Upon the complaint of 10 students, we have filed an FIR,” said Ramesh Khadtare, Senior Inspector, Amboli police station.
“Students were charged a minimum fee of Rs 50,000 and a maximum of Rs 80,000, depending on the course,” said 19-year-old Raju Shah who had paid Rs 49,500 for a cabin-crew course. He was allegedly told it was a six-month course when he joined in September, 2015.
