Mumbai: Two flyers have been arrested for allegedly passing vulgar comments and making lewd gestures to an airhostess. The accused — Kabir Raj Mallick (37) and Kailashchandra Lenkha (40) — who were on an Air India flight from Dubai on Saturday morning made lewd remarks to the 28-year-old hostess in their local tongue. The woman, who does not understand that language, was alerted by one of her colleagues who is familiar with the regional tongue.
In her complaint to the police, the airhostess has said that her colleague told her that the two men mouthing profanities whenever she passed by. "It was then that I noticed that they were staring at me repeatedly and even making objectionable gestures," her complaint mentions.
The two men, who work for a company in Dubai, were supposed to take a flight to their home state. However, when the flight landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Sahar, around 8.30am, the airline crew took Mallick and Lenkha to Sahar police station where they were arrested around noon.
Senior inspector Babu Tulsiram Mukhedkar said that the accused had been repeatedly using ribald language in their mother tongue. "They were caught unawares as another hostess on board understood the language." A police official said it will be verified if either of them committed such an act in the past.
