Ahmedabad: The passengers arriving at the domestic terminal of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport continue to suffer due to lack of a proper taxi service. Not only the passengers are mobbed by unauthorized taxi drivers, they are also forced to wait for radio cabs.
It has been more than a year since the AAI had shut down prepaid taxi service at domestic terminal which was operated by Amdavad Airport Taxi Owners Association (AATOA).
Dehradun-based Smriti Negi arrived from Delhi at the airport two days back. "I reached Ahmedabad in 1 hour 20 mins from Delhi but it took me more than an hour to get a rickshaw and reach my friend's place in Shahibaug. There were no cab with private cab operator who has been appointed by AAI to run the service at the terminal," said Negi. She further said that radio cabs were also not available and I had to resort to a rickshaw who was overcharging.
On an average, around 8,000-9,000 passengers arrive at city airport every day, many of them business travellers and tourists. As they do not know more about the city, they are fleeced by taxi drivers. With runway remaining closed between 10am and 6pm, the flights are stacked in early morning and evening. This leads to crowding of passengers in the arrival area.
