Chennai: he work on travelator facility, which was planned several years ago, will soon begin at the Chennai airport.
Sources in the AAI said tenders are going to be floated once again for the facility. “The drawings are almost finalised for constructing the travaletor. We want to complete it by January next,” an official said.
The facility was estimated to cost about Rs. 50 crore, but it is not clear if the cost may go up by the time it is complete. The travelator was initially part of the Chennai airport modernisation that cost Rs. 2,000 crore. However, this facility was later scrapped to cut down the cost.
