Airport will get metro link; a plan is ready

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has now decided to approach the state government with a detailed presentation on linking the city with the Kempegowda International Airport. One of the options is to extend the Phase II Metro line from Nagawara all the way to the airport.
It may be noted that the proposal for an airport line has been tossed around for almost five years now. The previous government had proposed building a high-speed rail link, but the project got shelved because of high costs and other delays.
Last year, BMRCL had asked RITES (a government-run engineering consultancy) to come out with a detailed report on the feasibility of linking the city to the airport (about 35 km from the CBD).
Under Phase II, BMRCL wants to build a Metro line from Gottigere to Nagawara -- a distance of 21.25 km, of which 13.79 km would be underground. It is looking to extend this Metro line to KIA.
