Bombay HC issues notce to DGCA, AAI, govt over plea against parking fees at Mumbai airport

Mumbai:  The Bombay high court on Monday issued notice to the Airport Authority of India, director general of Civil Aviation, Centre and state governments in response to a petition that has questioned high parking charges and fines at the International and domestic airport terminals in Mumbai.
Akhil Chitre, youth wing vice president of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had moved the high court against Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd to prohibit collection of parking charges at pick-up and drop points and entry fees at the international airport and domestic terminal in the city.
A bench of Justices V M Kanade and M S Sonak heard the matter briefly with Chitre's lawyer arguing that the charges were "unauthorised and excessive.'' He said while the airport website said the fees of Rs 110 were for 30 minutes the signage at the airport charges it for ten minutes. The parking also violated an international convention on safety, he said.
MIAL and the parking charge collecting firm Sunny Enterprise, were represented in court by a solicitor.
