DIAL starts beautification drive

New Delhi: The approach to the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here is soon going to be green and beautiful, with the airport operator starting a massive beautification drive.

The private airport operator, Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL), has embarked on a massive beautification drive at the main road approaching the airport and also the nearby hospitality district, the Aerocity.

“DIAL has commissioned a designer for beautification of common areas of new and emerging hospitality district of the airport. The idea is to create landscapes that are world-class and iconic in design with a truly unique character that identifies the growing airport city as one of the places of global airport visitors’ interest,” a DIAL spokesperson said.

He said the first phase of construction has already begun and will see an underground pedestrian connection boasting indoor planting with cascading water walls, besides striking sculptural features and light effects.

“Subsequent phases include creation of an exotic garden, pedestrian area, an iconic multi-media fountain display and a grand avenue leading to and from the road junction,” the spokesperson added.

The operator is also planning a public outdoor events space shaded by dramatic sculptural and flower-themed shade structures, which will be set on top of a car park and with a variety of units surrounding the open spaces.
