Directive on giving up land near airport

Thiruvananthapuram : Within two days of the government giving approval to acquire eight hectares of land for the development of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, those willing to surrender land have been asked to submit their consent along with other documents within one week.

The owners of the land identified for acquisition in Pettah and Muttathara villages have been asked to submit the copy of the receipt of the latest land tax remitted by them and the anticipated amount to the Special Tahsildar, Land Acquisition, Airport, at the Collectorate.

District Collector Biju Prabhakar said those surrendering land would get the market price of the land, cost of the building in the land being surrendered and trees to be axed, and compensation as per the Karamana-Kaliyikkavila NH package.

The cost of the land will be decided through talks with the owners, the Collector said. Those owning land near the plots identified for acquisition may also give their consent to the authorities in surrendering the land. The decision to go ahead with the acquisition is based on the July 18 meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. With this, the prospect of a modern domestic terminal near the international terminal complex has brightened.
