Fire at airport termial, staff blame faulty wiring

Ahmedabad: A minor fire at the international terminal of the city airport was reported on Thursday morning. Staff at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport cited faulty wiring as the cause of fire that was extinguished in 20 minutes. The fire was found in a cabin located next to the terminal manager's office. Confirming this, Airport Director AK Sharma, said, "At around 11am on Thursday, there was a minor fire in a store room containing cleaning material. The zoning panel in our fire control room noted the fire in the room adjacent to T2 (terminal 2).

The fire department took action immediately and brought the fire under control." However, an airport official speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "At 11am on Thursday, a fire alarm went off and all of us started looking for the fire. However, we took more than 30 minutes to identify the location. The cabin is used to store housekeeping goods. The fire staff took an hour to put out the fire and clear the smoke."

A source from the airport's housekeeping department pointed to faulty wiring as the cause. "The fire was probably sparked due to short-circuit. We have made several requests to the Airport Authority of India for urgent repair of wiring at the terminal to avoid accidents but there has been no action till date," the housekeeping staff said.
