IGI Airport emerging as transit point of drug smuggling: Minister

New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) is becoming the transit point of drug smuggling, the Lok Sabha was informed today. In a written reply, Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram said, "Seizure of drugs by the enforcement agencies at IGI suggests that it is becoming a transit point of drug smuggling."
The government has also taken various steps, including strict surveillance and enforcement at export or import points of the airport, installation of display boards at airports to spread awareness about the punishment provided in law for drug trafficking.
