Mumbai: Passengers arriving by international flights were inconvenienced on Monday afternoon as they were unable to book kaali-peeli or Cool Cab taxis which went on a flash strike for nearly four hours.
The strike was called by the union led by Guddu Singh after a Cool Cab driver died while on duty at the terminal's parking lot around 1.30pm. Singh alleged there was lack of medical facilities in the airport and this was the third such incident in six months. "We demand that there be proper medical aid available close to the parking lots and pickup points so that in case of an emergency, any driver can be given medical treatment," he said.
Sources at the airport denied the charge, saying there was a good medical facility at the airport, with eight ambulances, doctor and paramedical staff. In fact, sources said an ambulance was arranged to rush the cabbie to hospital, but he had died before admission.
