Surat: The union civil aviation ministry has convened a special meeting with executives of private airlines to discuss the air connectivity to Surat on July 19.
Besides the private airlines, representatives of We Want Working Airport at Surat (WWWAS) and Surat Airport Action Committee (SAAC) have also been invited for the meeting. The two groups crusading for more flights from Surat had met union civil aviation minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju last week and convinced him to take up the air connectivity issue with the airlines.
Usha Padhee, joint secretary, ministry of civil aviation, will chair the meeting.
"During our meeting last week, the minister had promised to convene a meeting with scheduled operators. We are happy that the ministry has finally taken up the air connectivity issue of the city. We are going to firmly represent our demands with the airline operators on July 19," said Sanjay Jain, member of WWWAS.
