Firemen at the airport will go on an indefinite lunchbreak strike from Tuesday to protest against a warning issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) against the consumption of intoxicating drinks. The warning was issued in a letter by Shankar Gopal, the jointgeneral manager, fire, AAI, after a complaint was made against a fireman.
The Airports Authority of India Employees Union (AAEU) on Sunday said that the firemen wereinsulted at receiving a warning after just one incident. In response to the airport HR, the union's general secretary Balraj Singh Ahlawat said, "A complaint against an individual should be dealt with separately. The union will always cooperate with the management to maintain discipline, but we will not tolerate the insult and punishment of staff at will."
The union leader said the warning had been issued without the approval of a competent authority and was therefore, illegal. AAI chairman-in-charge S Raheja said he will look into the issue.
