8 airport loaders held for stealing from flyer luggage

Chennai: Eight loaders at the airport were arrested by police on Saturday for stealing money and valuables belonging to passengers.
Police said the gang would target pieces of luggage that could be opened easily or slit open bags and suitcases belonging to flyers who arrived at or departed from the international terminal.
Police were alerted by Central Industrial Security Force personnel of the gang comprising Jayaprakash, Rajesh, Mahesh, Naveen, Saravanan, Vadivelu, Ranjith and Elango. Police said the gang took advantage of the lack of security and CCTV cameras in some areas of the airport. Most of their loot - that they either shared or sold - included expensive watches, cameras, high-end mobile phones, laptops, perfumes and electrical appliances.
