Flight services to Bangalore, Kochi soon: Narayanasamy

Puducherry: Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Saturday said that the flight services from Puducherry to Bangalore and Kochi will be revived within two months.

“Airline services such as Spice Jet, Jet Airways and Air India have expressed their interest in operating flights between Puducherry and Bengaluru, Puducherry and Kochi. Since the flight ticket rates would be fixed at Rs 2,500 , the government is not providing the viability gap funding as it did earlier. The government has paid Rs. 2 crore as viability gap funding to the previous operator,” he said.

With regard to train services, there have been complaints from people that the train journey from Puducherry to Chennai takes almost five hours. “We have requested the Railway Ministry to introduce a superfast Puducherry-Chennai-Puducherry train to reduce the travel time by two-and-a- half or three hours. ,” he said.

Similarly, he said he had requested the authorities to introduce train services to Jaipur and Rajasthan as there was a sizeable Rajasthani businessmen population in Puducherry and also there were many who travelled to Andhra from Puducherry.

“Steps should be taken to provide basic facilities to the people and beautify the Puducherry railway station. The Union Railway Minister has promised to look into these issues and decide after analysing whether it could be done through private investment or using railway ministry funds,” he said.
