Govt wants an int'l airport at Saifai too

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party government in UP wants an international airport in party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's family village of Saifai. While the Airports Authority of India has given its nod to Saifai and another in Bhadrauli near Agra, the UP government has decided to prioritise Saifai and keep development of Bhadrauli for later. The government, in a communique sent to the state director of civil aviation on August 12, said the department should proceed with development of the international airport at Saifai as soon as possible.
The department of civil aviation has said an international airport in Saifai may be developed because of its proximity to the upcoming Lucknow-Agra expressway, a railway station and the availability of around 250 acres of land especially for the purpose. This is apart from the 3-km runway and the existence of night landing facilities at the existing air strip.
