New Delhi: Ten days since the An-32 transport aircraft with 29 people on board went missing, there has been no breakthrough in the ongoing search-and-rescue operation involving ships, submarines and planes.
The search is also being carried out in the forests of Andhra Pradesh, where some tribal people reportedly heard a loud noise, possibly of a plane crashing.
A team of foresters and Air Force personnel are scouring the forests in the Nathavaram mandal. A dozen off icials from Narsipatnam division and the Suryalanka air force station and the local people are engaged in the forest search.
Officials said they were yet to receive any inputs from the U.S., which had been requested to assist with the search for the plane that disappeared off the Chennai coast on July 22.
The possibility that the emergency locator transmitter (ELT) of the aircraft may have remained off has complicated things further. The ELT has to be switched on by the pilot manually, or the aircraft should hit the ground with tremendous force on crashing.
