Mangaluru: Over 600 pilgrims will be going on a pilgrimage to Haj from the Mangaluru International Airport at Kenjar on Thursday.
Urban Development Minister R. Roshan Baig will be flagging off the journey of the first batch of pilgrims on Wednesday here. Talking to reporters here on Monday, S.M. Rasheed, President of Wakf Consultation Committee, said 675 pilgrims went on Haj pilgrimage from Mangaluru airport in 2009, which was the first year of the start of service from the airport. The then External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna had flagged off the first batch of pilgrims. Subsequently, 867 pilgrims went on a pilgrimage in 2010, 810 in 2011, 1,060 in 2012, 966 in 2013 and 731 in 2014. All the pilgrims took flights to Mumbai and from there to Medina.
