Suspected bird hit delays A'bad-Mumbai flight

Ahmedabad: An Ahmedabad-Mumbai Air India flight carrying more than 150 passengers on board was delayed after it suffered a suspected bird hit during takeoff from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The flight took off after a 36-minute delay after getting clearance from the engineering staff who inspected the flight for any damage. Ahmedabad airport is notorious for animal and bird menace and is among the seven airports in the country that are under surveillance by the Director General of Civil Aviation for the same. According to sources, the flight was brought back to the bay after it was hit on the taxiway by what is suspected to be a bird.
An Air India official, on condition of anonymity said, "We suspected that there was a bird hit so we brought back the plane so that it could be checked for damage before the flight." Meanwhile, Airport director AK Sharma denied any reports of bird hit. He said, "I have not received any message of bird hit." Ahead of monsoon every year, the Airport Authority of India draws up an action plan to avoid bird hits. The Airport Environment Management Committee (AEMC), responsible for management of birds at the airport, also meets every year to plan strategies to avoid bird hits based on the survey done by Gujarat Ecological Educational and Research (GEER) foundation.
