AN-32 personnel families yet to be informed

Chennai: While the search for the missing AN-32 - courier flight - which went missing on 22 July, is continuing, the Indian Air Force on Thursday has informed the families of all the personnel on board that their kin are 'presumed dead'.

But the families claim that they didn't get any such official updates from the department. Speaking to 'News Today' over phone, brother of the R Muthu Kumar - one of the personnel on board the missing AN 32 -  Mohan, said, "We didn't get any official information from the Air Force or the Coast Guard. But the Air Force regularly updates us regarding the search operations. It will be better if the formalities are processed soon and updates are officially shared with the families."

"R Muthu Kumar is a native of Thiruchendur in Tuticorin district and had joined the IAF as a sailor in 1998. I urge the Air Force department to update the existing set of machines to modern standards," he added.

The department, for its part, has made the death declaration as an administrative procedure to clear compensation for the next of kin. IAF sources said the families have been given the information so that they can go ahead with insurance and other administrative formalities.

The sources also assured that the search for the missing AN-32 was still in progress and will continue.
